About GeWiss

GeWiss is a research project in spoken academic language. It provides a multilingual (German/English/Polish/Italian) corpus of audio recordings and transcriptions of academic communications, as an empirical foundation for comparative research.

To this end, the GeWiss corpus focusses on two main genres of spoken adademic language:

• talks including discussions, and
• oral exams,

and it explicitly distinguishes between L1 and L2 subcorpora. The corpus is enlarged and developed continuously.

Upon registration, you may go to corpus to

• browse the transcripts and audio recordings (full texts),
• search the corpus for occurrences of words and annotations of specific events, such as code-switching (search interface),
• have access to a list of all words in the corpus, and their frequencies (word lists),
• make use of our web services, for automatic retrieval of the corpus data independently of this web interface.

Please note, that in the English version of this web site, only the English language subcorpora are provided. To access the whole corpus, please go to the German version.
